I once gave a gift to the one I loved.
The package was shiny and new.
It shone like the sun on a summer day;
It's promise was fresh as the dew.
And oh, the treasures that waited inside ...
My dearest to delight and behold.
A heart as pure as a breeze at dawn,
and a passion fiery as gold.
A spirit as free as a moonbeam,
A love that could light up the sky.
The promise of endless tomorrows
without ever saying "Good Bye."
But the package was scarcely opened.
It's contents were sadly ignored.
What was wrong with the gift that I offered
to the man I truly adored?
I faithfully bided with lonely tears
as time drifted slowly away.
The days, the months, the years passed by
and the gift in the shadow stayed.
It's brilliant case is tarnished now.
It's trimmings have faded with time.
And the tiny light still glowing inside
Struggles to stay alive.
